Pumpkin Experiment
We
had such a great time carving our pumpkins but they were starting to get soft
and a little smelly. What a great opportunity for some pumpkin science! First
we talked about what was happening to poor smelly pumpkin. The kids told me
that he was rotting and soon he would just
be a pile of mush. We filled our moldy, old pumpkin with garbage from today’s
snack. I told them that we would be burying him in the dirt and digging him up
in April (for Earth Day). I asked them what they thought would happen to him.
They unanimously agreed that the pumpkin would be gone by then. Most of the
kids also guessed that the garbage would be gone too. Sometimes science
experiments take a long time ... we’ll check back in April.
